The best way – statistically – to get your Tuesday properly started is with some Portuguese dream-punk. No, really. 100% of the inhabitants of the Upset bunker agree.
Don’t panic, we’ve got your fix.
Pega Monstro are sisters Júlia Reis (drums) and Maria Reis (guitar, keyboard). They’ve been playing together since they were 15 and 17 respectively, in other groups before forming a duo.
Starting a label, Cafetra Records, back in 2010 to document Portugal’s garage punk scene, their most recent album ‘Alfarroba’ (Order here) out via Upset The Rhythm (Sauna Youth/Trash Kit/No Age/Vexx). And no, it doesn’t matter if you understand their native tongue, because it is still 10/10 awesome.
We’ve got the brand new video for ‘Estrada’ for you, filmed on the sister’s birthday while they were in London last summer. Interesting fact, readers; though they’re not twins, they actually share the same birthday. Spooky.
Check it out below.
