Frank Turner is a record breaker. He doesn’t like to blow his own trumpet too much, he says, but on this occasion at Reading Festival, he’s going for it. On top of being his 1955th show, occasion enough for a sun-soaked party, it’s also his tenth consecutive year playing at the festival.
And he’s running with it. From ‘I Still Believe’, ‘The Next Storm’ and ‘Try This At Home’, he doesn’t waste a moment or yelled breath in getting the crowd revved up for the weekend. Dancing shoes demanded, Frank and the Sleeping Souls set speakers rattling by the time ‘If I Ever Stray’ is pelted out.
Not content with the record, he also wants to beat Frank Carter to the first circle pits of the day, though they’re a tad more jolly than your average. He teases an upcoming UK tour announcement, makes almost as many jokes about being here once or twice before as there are songs in his set (almost), and makes his record-breaking appearance once hell of a way to start the Reading weekend.
