Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace’s AOL web series, True Trans With Laura Jane Grace has been nominated in the New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, Culture category of the 36th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
“No stranger to being different, Laura Jane Grace always felt like an outsider in the posh Florida suburb where she grew up,” reads the series’ synopses. “It was only in the rebellion of the punk scene and playing music that she found a home.
“After surviving years of struggle, things finally seemed to be taking off when her band inked its first major record deal. On the inside, though, Laura was buckling under the pressure of being someone she wasn’t.”
Also nominated are The New York Times’ Inside the Kronos Quartet; MediaStorm’s Hungry Horse; POV Digital: StoryCorps: Military Voices; The New York Times’ Notes On Blindness; and The New York Times Magazine’s Small Plates.
