There probably won’t be a Tool album anytime soon

Tool are set to perform their only live show of 2015 this weekend at the Monster Mash festival in Tempe, Arizona. That work-rate is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future, at least, if frontman Maynard James Keenan has anything to do with it.

Speaking to the Phoenix New Times about his other band Puscifer, it seems Maynard doesn’t really want to talk about Tool.

When asked if Puscifer allows him to explore his less serious side, due to the high regard in which Tool is held in Maynard notes, “It’s weird. It shouldn’t be. I mean, this one’s named dick, this one’s named vagina. That’s the start there, okay?”

He follows this up by talking about the humour present in Tool’s music. “Yeah, it’s there but people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullshit. It’s lost. Insufferable people . . . It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”

Maynard then notes that the other members of Tool, “had to con me into,” playing the Monster Mash festival. As for a new Tool album, “There’s nothing to say.”

Maybe that’s for the best though, eh chaps?
