No Devotion frontman Geoff Rickly has had a terrible week – over the weekend he was rushed to hospital after being poisoned and robbed outside the Rock Cafe St. Pauli in Hamburg, Germany, where the band were playing Reeperbahn Festival.
“Just a little note to say that I was poisoned and robbed (outside our Reeperbahn Festival on Friday),” he posted on Instagram, “and spent the night recovering in Hamburg. I’m recovering and will be in Paris tonight.
“Sorry to anyone that was at our show for the cancellation. The outpouring of love & support for @collectrecords @nodevotionband & @normanbrannon @shaundurkan is nothing short of remarkable.”
A few days ago, American businessman Martin Shkreli – who recently acquired and then massively hiked the price of Daraprim, a drug that can help AIDS and Cancer patients – was revealed as an investor into Rickly’s record label, Collect Records.
“Never in a million years did any of us expect to wake up to the news of the scandal that he is now involved in,” Rickly said in a statement. “It blindsided and upset us on every level. As such, we know it is impossible for us to continue having any ties with him.
“I hope that our bands continue to believe in our guidance and passion. Any of them that have had an incurable crisis of confidence will be allowed to leave with nothing but the kind of encouragement that we’ve built our label on.”
