Matt Skiba had to ‘relearn guitar’ to join Blink-182

There’s been a lot of mouthing off after Tom DeLonge left Blink-182, but up until now the man replacing the guitarist, Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, has kept quiet.

That’s changed, with Skiba joining Blink bassist Mark Hoppus on the latest episode of his ‘Hi My Name Is Mark’ Podcast. There, the two spoke about joining Blink for three shows over the next week. “I couldn’t be more excited,” Skiba said. “As you know we’ve been rehearsing a lot and it just gets better and better and more and more fun.”

“Tom and I have a very different guitar playing style,” he continues. “I had to kind of relearn guitar in a sense. But it was a lot of fun. I’ve been a fan of Blink for a long time, I’ve known you Mark for 15 years or something? And I was a fan of the band before we knew each other. I knew a lot of the songs already just lyrically, and of course it’s a totally different thing when you’re playing the songs, but it was a blast.”

“It really feels like a band—it feels like home. It’s great.”
