letlive. confirm album number four will be called ‘If I’m The Devil’

letlive. frontman Jason Aalon Butler has appeared as a guest on the Lead Singer Syndrome podcast and confirmed that the band’s fourth album is called ‘If I’m The Devil‘.

Speaking to host Shane Told, Jason explains, “the overarching theme for this record is a very personally aware perception of our political state as well as our emotional state as a result of that. It’s more so this oppressive force that we’ve always known has been there, especially being from this world that is punk rock or alternative music. We’ve always known it’s there but I feel, for some reason, we’ve found a way to use that to give ourselves this guise of an edge. You’re masquerading as this progressive thinker or you’re masquerading an activist. I think a lot of people are talking the talk but nobody’s walking the walk.

“I, as of recent, have become more sage in my approach to being an activist. I really want to explain what I think we have had done to us and I want to explain what I think we should do about it as opposed to just what usually comes across as a punk-rock poet complaining.

“This record to me is certainly a call to those that aren’t ready to change just as much as it is to the people that are ready. I want to offer a place where people can learn and understand and see why it’s in your interest to pay attention to these things,” Jason continues.

“I’ve been trying to learn who I am as a person, emotionally and intellectually, and throughout the years I think I’m getting somewhat of a grasp on it and I’ve tackled that. If we have any reason as poets and writers, if there’s anything we’re supposed to do, we’re supposed to discuss things emotionally and we’re supposed to show these effects and show how these interests are a part of everyone.”

Previously Jason has explained that “If anyone has observed my interview history, when I discuss an album I’ll say ‘it’s an evolution’ or ‘it makes sense’ but I made a point to not say ‘it’s the best.’ I try not to overuse that expression – that sentiment – towards the music but this is easily the best we’ve ever done.”

‘If I’m The Devil’ should be out in the first half of 2016.

The band have been announced for Groezrock 2016 and they’ll hopefully stick around for some more European shows while they’re in the neighbourhood.
