Brand New’s Jesse Lacey to release cover of R.E.M’s ‘Bad Day’

The surprise may have been ruined slightly by a pre-emptive poster but the news that Kevin Devine is teaming up with Brand New‘s Jesse Lacey for the sixth instalment of his Devinyl Split series is still Very Good News indeed.

The project has seen Kevin collaborate with a whole host of musicians, offering covers and original song and the sixth (and final) instalment sees both KevDev and Jesse Lacey cover a R.E.M classic. Kevin will be reworking ‘Imitation Of Life‘ while Jesse will be taking on ‘Bad Day‘ (the ruddy emo).

The tracks will be released on limited edition vinyl and preorders kick off this Thursday (3rd March) at 7pm GMT via Big Scary Monster and Bad Timing Records.

Kevin Devine has previously worked with Matthew Caws of Nada Surf, Meredith Graves, Tigers Jaw, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Owen across the six Devinyl Splits. They come ahead of Kevin’s ninth studio album which is currently being worked on. The optimists among us are hoping Jesse Lacey and the rest of Brand New also have a new album in the works.
