Following backlash from a number of artists including The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe and, more recently, Taylor Swift, new streaming service Apple Music has made a u-turn with regards to royalty payments.
Previously it was reported Apple would not pay rights holders during the three month free trial period offered to new users; now Apple’s Senior Vice President, Eddie Cue has announced a change of heart.
“Apple will always make sure that artist are paid,” he tweeted. “#AppleMusic will pay artist for streaming, even during customer’s free trial period. We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple”
