Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are doing the Super Bowl halftime show tonight (7th February) which will probably be nice. If you fancy something a little heavier though, Metallica are streaming last night’s ‘The Night Before‘ concert for free online. Check it out below.
Speaking about the concert, which took place at San Francisco’s AT&T Park, and the fact they’re not been asked to do the halftime show, James Hetfield explained, “The fan base is really wide, but as far as playing halftime for the Super Bowl, I have a feeling that ship has passed. We’re not a variety show. We’re not pop. We’re not sparkly and all that kind of stuff that I think seems to be what is needed for that.”
During the show he went on to add, ““I think it works out for a reason. We get to play a whole show for a lot of people and we get to represent the Bay Area.”
As well as streaming the show, Metallica have made the 18-track set available to download here.
If all that wasn’t exciting enough, during the gig James told the crowd that work on a new Metallica album was “coming near the end,” with Lars Ulrich closing the night with the promise, “We will see you very soon with a brand new fucking record.”
