Today marks the start of Modern Baseball’s North American tour with Joyce Manor and Thin Lips, and the band have just announced that they have set up a tour hotline to ensure that all attendees feel safe throughout the show.
Earlier, MoBo posted a video to Youtube via their label Run For Cover, encouraging fans to text the hotline if they feel unsafe or witness any inappropriate behaviour at a show. Messages will be monitored by their tour manager who will then pass on any concerns to venue security.
Modern Baseball are the latest band to take proactive steps to promote inclusivity at shows, taking inspiration from Speedy Ortiz, who championed a similar safety hotline system on tour last year. For this run, they will also be following in the footsteps of bands like PWR BTTM, by only playing venues with a gender-neutral bathroom policy.
In a scene that often depends on self-policing to address any problematic or threatening behaviour, it’s really great to see more and more bands using their platform to create shows that are safe for everyone. Nice work, Modern Baseball. You’re doing a very cool thing.
