The rumours are (mostly) true. Members of Rage Against The Machine, Cypress Hill and Public Enemy have teamed up for a new group, Prophets of Rage.
The band features Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk, Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord, and Cypress Hill’s B-Real and will perform their first show tonight (May 31st) at Hollywood’s Whiskey a Go-Go. They’re promising to play material from all three of their respective bands as well as new material, which sounds exciting.
“Prophets Of Rage combines the sonic firepower of Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill. We can no longer stand on the sidelines of history. Dangerous times demand dangerous songs. It’s time to take the power back. It’s time to make America RAGE again,” says an email from the group.
Elsewhere, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Tom Morello explains, “We’re not a supergroup. We’re an elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bullshit, and confront it head-on with Marshall stacks blazing.”
