Max Raptor have collaborated with Australian-based The Refugee Art Project to present a special T-shirt with artwork by Mohammad Saeed.
Refugee Art Project was conceived amongst a collective of academics and artists, united by a concern for the plight of refugees to Australia and the asylum seekers who wait in Australian detention centres. Since its inception in late 2010, more than 500 artworks created by refugee art project refugees and asylum seekers have been exhibited to the Australian public. Refugee art project is passionate about showcasing the enormous talent, locked away, beyond the razor wire.
“We’ve collaborated with the Refugee Art Project in Australia to present to you a beautiful piece of artwork by Mohammad Saeed. We came across the piece when reading the scores of articles surrounding the huge crisis that is changing the face of the world as we know it,” explain the band.
“The reason we decided to put this image on a t shirt is firstly to generate some cash for Mohammad for a great piece of artwork but also to give him the confidence to pursue further pieces or to put the money aside for essentials. We thought a lot of our songs are about current affairs, foreign policy and politics so why not bring the music and the reality face to face.
Despite the gesture being insignificant and small compared to the huge journeys millions of people like Mohammad Saeed are enduring across the world, we hope that the artwork fee and £5 per tee sold will help him and his family in some way.”
The T-shirt will be sold on the band’s headline tour and will then be available online.
