Jimmy Eat World are taking some time off after a mammoth tour celebrating the tenth anniversary of their brilliant and influential fifth album Futures but frontman Jim Adkins isn’t putting his feet up.
After announcing a few solo shows earlier this week, Jim has taken to Facebook to announce his solo project and show off his scrappy handwriting.
“Hi, I am Jim. I have had the pleasure/honor/luck to play in the mostly-pro rock band Jimmy Eat World for 21 years,” starts the note.
“It’s something I take seriously and as every opportunity which comes our way, am grateful. In the last few years we have toured extensively playing songs from the full catalog as well as celebrating the tenth anniversary of our 2004 album ‘Futures’.
For our (hesitate to call it this but here goes…) career, we have operated more or less the same way. Write, tour, record, tour, pull our heads together and then write again. 2015 seemed like as good as any to take a minute and experiment with life outside the pattern.
In the past, I have been involved with solo work, playing mostly benefit concerts locally in my home of Arizona. Towards the end of our last European tour I decided to hang out and play a solo show in Berlin. I though to myself ‘Hey, this is pretty different and fun… I could keep going.’
So, why not? This summer and fall of 2015 I will be touring with myself and a guitar. Playing new solo material, rock band songs and covers (no ‘Freebird’). I am trying to get to places I haven’t been in a long time, or maybe ever.
Looking forward to adventure.”
Jim will be playing the following dates, with more to follow.
21 Ithaca, NY – The Haunt
22 Kingston, NY – BSP Kingston
23 Hamden, CT – The Space
