Sources suggest that independent metal label, Century Media has just been sold to Sony for approximately $17 million.
The company is valued between $15 and $20 million and is said to have over 50 staff across the US and Europe.
Originally founded in Germany by Robert Kampfi and Oliver Withöft, the label was home to the likes of In This Moment, Lacuna Coil, Moonspell, Nevermore, Shadows Fall, Suicide Silence and Winds of Plague.
Opening up to MBW, one source said: “As independent labels begin to consider taking back their digital rights from major distributors in the US market, this kind of acquisition will become more popular again.”
Century also includes Magic Arts Publishing, Lonely Planet Publishing, Inside Out Music, Super Ball, Rock The Nation America, to name a few.
