Brighton’s Demob Happy are heading to Reading & Leeds Festival this weekend (28th – 30th August) for a slot on the BBC Introducing Stage (Saturday, Reading; Sunday, Leeds).
“We’re [originally] from Newcastle which has an amazing music and arts scene but no big festival in a field to lose your shit at for the first time,” says Tom Armstrong (drums and vocals).
“So yeah you’d go to Leeds Fest and go ape for a few days and get messed up on whatever and do some crazy shit. It was like Rumspringa for us. We never shat in anyone’s tents though. Do a shit in your own tent and set that on fire man.
“It’ll be great to hang with Vant [this year], we’ve been mates with those guys for ever and Black Peaks we know from Brighton. They’re great guys and a ridiculously awesome band.
“There’s loads of cool stuff further down the bill that we wanna catch too. Turbowolf, American Football, The Bronx, Bo Nigen… also I’d be up for getting beaten up at a Bad Breeding show again!”
As for the band’s own set, it sounds as though it’ll be typical Demob.
“Our plans to sky-wire down onto the stage from all different directions have been thwarted due to insurance purposes, so In lieu of our big entrance we’re just gonna tear it up, rock the fuck out and show people what were made of.
“Maybe also see if anyone wants to buy 500m of wire and some top of the range harnessing equipment.”
Reading Festival 2015 has now completely sold out, with the last few weekend tickets snapped up a few days ago. Tickets for Leeds Festival are still available. Read more about Reading & Leeds in the September issue of Upset.
