CHVRCHES and Tame Impala are among the seven artists contributing a track to Secret 7″.
Secret 7″ (no, not the Enid Blyton books) is a yearly project that “takes 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and presses each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. We then invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for every 7”,” explains the Secret 7″ website. “700 sleeves are exhibited and then sold for £50 apiece. You don’t know who created the sleeve, or even which song it’s for, until you have parted with your cash – the secret lies within.”
This year the project is raising money for Amnesty International UK. If you want to get involved, you can. “From now until March you can send us your interpretations of the tracks we are working with in 2016 for the chance to feature in the exhibition come April.”
So basically, listen to the songs and draw what you feel. Very Art Attack.
The seven tracks are:
CHVRCHES – Clearest Blue
Etta James – At Last
Jack Garrett – Worry
The Jam – Art School
John Lennon – Imagine
Mac Richter – Dream 3
Tame Impala – The Less I Know The Better
Before the vinyl are sold on May 2nd, they’ll be displayed at the Sonos Studios in Shoreditch, London from April 8th to May 1st.
Here’s Chvrches performing ‘Clearest Blue‘ on The Late, Late Show with James Corden because, well, any excuse really.
