Deftones’ new album was originally planned for last year, but due to unspecified setbacks now finds itself with an 8th April release date. Frontman Chino Moreno has now revealed the reason behind the lost months: apparently the band finished the record, before deciding to try something else. Then they changed their minds again.
“The guy [Matt Hyde] who started – who recorded the record with us — had mixed it,” he told Komp 92.3 at Brooklyn Bowl, Las Vegas, “but at the time, we had finished the record and then we went and started doing some shows. So we weren’t around while it was being mixed.
“So, when we got off tour we listened to it and went ‘ahh, let’s try something else’ — so we tried someone else, who was great, but didn’t record the record. So there was a lot of the nuance and things from the recording that were missing. So we ended up going back with Matt Hyde, who initially recorded the record.”
