Are you sitting comfortably, kids? Lovely, then we’ll have a little story. When we were starting work on Upset, back in the hazy summer of ’15, there was one band we listened to more than any other. Their name was Bully, and their debut album ‘Feels Like’ went a long way to shaping what we felt this magazine should be. ‘We’d love to put them on a cover,’ we thought to ourselves. ‘This is a band that should be on covers.’
This month, that’s just what we’ve done. As the Nashville based four piece head to the UK for a mix of headline shows and dates with previous cover stars FIDLAR, we caught up with their leader Alicia Bognanno to ask her all the questions she’s fed up of answering, some she’s (hopefully) not, and about her dog. Cos, y’know, dogs are great. (There are three in this issue – Ed.)
Elsewhere we’re onboard with the always mighty Fall Out Boy at Wembley, race for the prize with State Champs, welcome back Fightstar, bring the wisdom of Beach Slang, celebrate the brilliance of Foxing and the mayhem of Wavves. There’s also About to Break stars Petal, Muncie Girls, Press To Meco and Chain of Flowers, the chance to claim your very own buzz band with the Upset Band Spotters Club (don’t ask, it’ll make sense on Friday – Ed), chats with Against The Current, Ex Hex and ROAM and a trip in the studio with Milk Teeth.
Add to that views from the front at shows from Wolf Alice, Brand New, Twin Atlantic, Fort Minor, Tellison and No Devotion, plus a very special poster section with a twist and the chance to enter our 2015 Readers Poll, and you’ve got one packed issue. We’ve even decided issue four is a great time to have a redesign. Because what’s the point in being young if you can’t change your look every five minutes? Exactly.
November’s Upset is on the streets this Friday, 30th October. If you want it first, direct to your door, pre-order it online here.
