Smashing Pumpkins frontman and “wrestlemaniac”, Billy Corgan has criticised the sport for “typical misogynist stuff” and being “behind the curve” in its treatment of women.
Corgan – who’s currently a producer with TNA Wrestling – told TMZ:
“I’ve been working in professional wrestling for about five years, and the rise of [martial artist] Ronda Rousey sort of shows that wrestling’s really behind the curve in marketing women in a different way.
“I think there’s a whole host of ways to portray women in wrestling in the future that sort of gets away from the typical misogynist stuff.
“I think she embodies everything that’s about smart sexy and tough, I think that’s shown to be a huge marketable asset.”
