There’s a lot to be said about the evolution of Reading Festival. The fact that Baby Metal opening the main stage is met with nothing worse than bemused looks says a lot, especially given the reaction Daphne & Celeste – who have more in common with the band than you’d first guess – got fifteen years earlier.
An opening montage declares the band a musical revolution. While the future of rock lies somewhere on today’s main stage, nestled between Royal Blood and Metallica, there’s no escaping Baby Metal’s ability to limber up an inquisitive crowd.
With scores of people struggling with the festivities of last night, Baby Metal are the perfect way to force the groggy crowd to stand up and take note.
