At the end of last year, Weirds announced they’d signed to Alcopop! Records and had some mysterious plans afoot. Now they’ve confirmed what they’ve been up to: working on their debut album. The Leeds four-piece will release full-length ‘Swarmculture’ on 12th May, preceded by new single ‘Phantom’, which you can hear below first on Upset.
“’Phantom’ is the probably the poppiest thing we’ve written,” says vocalist Aidan Razzall, “but still has a sense of heaviness and ugliness to it. We wanted to write something with deserty, sinewy riffs but something you could also dance to. It flicks between bombastic guitar sounds and psychedelic synths, and the lyrics cut through all the sickly-sweet sludge like razorblades.”
The band are touring the UK throughout spring, with a trio of free London shows this week – Old Blue Last (20th March); Lock Tavern (21st) and The Windmill (22nd) – and a support tour with The Wytches in April. They also play Live At Leeds on 29th April, along with 2000trees and Truck in July.
