Catharsis is a funny ol’ thing in music. It’s the starting point of many brilliant songs but somewhere along the line, the direction, the confrontation and the honesty is tapered back by the artist knowing other people will be privy to these private thoughts. Not Cassels though.
With ‘Cool Box‘, the first track taken from their upcoming ‘You, Us and They‘ EP, the band are direct. Devastatingly direct.
Making sure you know “The ‘you’ in this song is a real person,” the track feels like a letter penned in anger, channeling years of frustration and confusion while not giving a damn who else reads it. It’s utterly unforgiving, brutally confrontational and powerful beyond words.
“’Cool Box’ is about our stepdad. The lyrics should tell you pretty much everything else you need to know.”
