Anti-Flag come out swinging at Download Festival

Posted: Saturday, June 11th, 2016

The crowd Anti-Flag have pulled to the Maverick stage this afternoon is impressive, especially when you remember that this festival (and it’s audience) is dedicated wholeheartedly to metal. Perhaps sensing they’d have a fight on their hands, Justin Sane and co. tear across the the stage like they’ve got something to prove. An anti-establishment tornado, they barely let up for a second as they deliver hit after hit with a vigour and verve that can only be explained by vegan superpowers.

The entire tent is bouncing up and down, fists in the air, and the whole experience is joyous from start to finish. Anti-Flag are already the surprise highlight of the weekend for many when, perhaps cocking a side-eye at tributes to the usual Download metal royalty, they pay tribute to The Clash and unleash a blistering cover of ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’.

While quickly achieving legendary status as a ‘legacy’ act, Anti-Flag proved today that there’s plenty of life in the old dog yet. Truly triumphant.
