Killer Mike turns to El-P and shouts with sheer delight, “there’s a mosh pit the size of Ireland over there.” El-P looks out at the NME tent and with a smirk promises to “give you fuckers something to mosh to.”
Earlier in the set the Zach De La Rocha sampling ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)’ comes with the warning that “shit’s about to get fucked up,” but in all honesty, everyone knows the score by now. From the off, Run The Jewels demand a reaction. The pair, backed by a sole DJ, are unrelenting in their verbal attack and the crowd responds en masse. Passion, fire and desire, the tent is either jumping to the hammering beats or, well, that’s it. From every edge inwards, there’s mass compliance and Run The Jewels treasure such a reaction. “God damn, the UK knows how to throw a rap show,” praises Killer Mike before carrying on with the punk rock double act.
