Today is Cassette Store Day. There aren’t actually many (any? – Ed) dedicated cassette stores – that would be a bit niche in 2015, but instead a day celebrating the spirit of collaboration the good old C60 can bring. And if there’s one label that embodies that spirit, it’s our good chums at Alcopop!
They’ve teemed up with SuperFan 99 to make ‘Secret 7th’, “the most collaborative cassette ever”, inviting everyone in the fucking world to be a part of it. So, they’ve released a limited run of 50 cassettes. Each one features the same 1-6, with the 7th track an exclusive mystery only revealed when the listener takes a look at the hand-finished artwork panel inside the sleeve. Every 7th song is from a different artist via a completely open submissions process.
And those track 7s – they’ve all been sourced from what Jack Alcopop! is calling “the most overwhelming (if most fun) A&R job ever”. Hundreds of songs have been submitted by bands, listened to, and the favourite ones picked out.
So, while you can head out and find one the glitter desert red cassettes today, you can also stream those first 6 tracks – including Helen Love, Get Inuit, The Spills, The Orielles, Zooz and Cotillon – here, on Upset, below. Find more details here.
