Sorority Noise’s Top 10 Weezer songs

Everyone loves Weezer, right? While we avoid getting into that particular ‘I preferred the earlier stuff’ debate (you’re wrong, by the way – every album has at least one solid gold nugget), we figured it was best to go on the positive. That’s why Sorority Noise’s Cam Boucher has provided us with his top 10 Weezer songs. That and the fact his band are currently on tour round the UK. You can find the dates for that jaunt at the bottom of the page. Take your arguments directly to him.

1. ‘Perfect Situation’
“What’s the deal with my brain, why am I so obviously insane” is probably my favorite lyric that’s opened a song next to “let the bodies hit the floor.” This song handles dynamics so well while maintaining a super driving feeling which is rare and awesome. The use of wah guitar also, just stunning, what an incredible song.

2. ‘The Good Life’
Rivers Cuomo gets away with saying “funky dude” in a punk song and it rocks. I remember hearing that for the first time and genuinely being taken aback. He’s always doing that in his lyricism and i’ve definitely taken away a great deal from that facet of his song writing.

3. ‘Undone – The Sweater Song’
This song sounds like straight up weed. I love the story and the way it’s produced. That’s really about it, this song just rocks.

4. ‘In The Garage’
I remember learning the intro finger picking part in my freshman year of college dorm room. This song is the ultimate like geek out song, I play Magic the Gathering so I have a lot of appreciation for a song that can be this positive about alternative cultures.

5. ‘El Scorcho’
I think every band I’ve ever played in has covered this song at one time or another. Old Gray covered it at our “last show” in 2011 and it was embarrassing. Sorority Noise covered it at a house called The Icehouse in Cohoes, NY and it went much better. Just an objectively good song. When the double time part kicks in, that’s when I lose it.

6. ‘Island In The Sun’
This is the first Weezer song I ever heard. I was watching VH1 Top 20 Countdown and the music video with the chimpanzee’s got me hooked. I don’t think i’d heard music like this until this point and it changed my perspective on music. I was like 11.

7. ‘Troublemaker’
This song is for sure a hit. For some reason this song reminds me of Ian Farmer from Modern Baseball. To be honest, i’m not really sure if he even likes this song. Maybe I am just thinking of him right now. I should text him, I miss you buddy!

8. ‘Across The Sea’
This song is good.

9. ‘Hash Pipe’
When I was reading the list of songs I’d picked to Charlie he said “Yo, i’m glad hash pipe is on there.”

10. ‘Blast Off’
This is one of the most underrated Weezer songs, probably because it is on an album that was technically never released. Tera Melos does a really, really good cover of it.
