Listen to Youth Man’s take on Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’

Yesterday the long list of Record Store Day releases was unveiled, detailing who’s releasing what for the annual celebration of physical music and all who sell it. Alongside releases from Gerard Way, Bring Me The Horizon and uh…Hello Kitty, Alcopop Records! has once again curated an eleven-track compilation featuring exclusive tracks from the best UK indie labels around.

Our friends in Venn Records have contributed a brand new track from the always-incredible Youth Man to ‘The Sensible Record Labels Compilation: Volume 2‘. Check out their cover of Jefferson Airplane‘s ‘White Rabbit‘ below, exclusively on Upset.

Taking a step back from the unforgiving intensity of ‘Pigs‘, Youth Man’s ‘White Rabbit’ is inescapable proof that whatever shape the band take, they’re utterly captivating. Their new EP can’t come soon enough.

Alcopop’s ‘The Sensible Record Labels compilation: Volume 2’ is limited to 500 copies and will be released on April 16th (which is Record Store Day) and cost ten of your English pounds.

Label head, JackoPop explains, “We love Record Store Day, but completely understand the criticisms that are levelled at it – and we’re keen, in our own small way, to redress the balance. We think RSD should be about musical discovery, and not paying through the nose for it, so we’ve asked eleven of our favourite labels to put forward a track for the record – and a stack of extras on the download card. None of them (or the bands) will make any money from this….in fact, Disc Manufacturing Services and Procards have helped make it viable for us. But it’s not about that. It’s about ace music, awesome labels and buying it from record stores.“

The tracklisting and artwork is as follows:

Martha – Christine (Fortuna POP!)*
TBA (Alcopop! Records)
Cosmo Sheldrake – Solar (Transgressive)
Pearl Charles – Phases (Super Fan 99)*
The School – All I Want From Is Everything (Alternative Version) (Elefant)*
The Fairweather Band – Opportunities (Specialist Subject)*

Giants – Four Wheels (Holy Roar)*
Swim Good – Hard Enough (Failure By Design)*
Allusondrugs – Her Crown (Too Pure Singles Club)
John – Cultural Trip (Till Deaf Us Do Party)*
Youth Man – White Rabbit (Venn)*

Alongside the eleven tracks (most of which are exclusive*), The Sensible Record Labels compilation: Volume 2 will also include a download card including a bunch of tracks, videos, photos and other good ‘stuff’ from the eleven labels taking part.
