Listen to Gerard Way’s cover of The Carpenters’ ‘Superstar’

As promised and right on time, Gerard Way has shared his vocal cover of The Carpenters‘ ‘Superstar‘. Listen below, (the original upload is here.)

“Thanks for listening. Let’s enjoy it before the swift hammer of copyright justice comes down on us,” Gerard writes on Twitter. “Thanks for all the kind words- I’m just happy you get enjoyment out of it. It was a pleasure to sing. I <3 u Karen Carpenter. Special thanks to Doug McKean, who engineered the whole album (and produced Hesitant Alien)"

The track was recorded during warm up sessions for My Chemical Romance‘s ‘The Black Parade‘. “For real just heard a crazy thing I did 10 years ago while recording Black Parade, found by our engineer, Doug,” he explained on Twitter. “Want to figure out how to put this out cuz y’all really should hear this, it’s pretty ridiculous. I’m singing a cover of ‘Superstar’ by The Carpenters on the recording. Can’t officially release it because the music is from some karaoke cd we got, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using soundcloud. I used to do my vocal warm ups for Black Parade by singing The Carpenters, so I guess we decided to record it one day.”

“It’s a karaoke backing track,” he adds. “but some of the guys were present for the recording I believe, it was really low-key”
